Leading Yorkshire businessman Sir Rodney Walker has been appointed as non-executive Chairman of Yorkshire based firm Galaxy Insulation & Dry Lining. Established in 2009, with depots in Leeds and Sheffield, the company is owned and managed by a highly dedicated and motivated team with years of construction industry experience.
Best known for his roles in sport, including chair of Sport England where he initiated the plans that led to the building of the new Wembley Stadium, Sir Rodney said: “I am flattered and delighted to have been asked to chair this growing and ambitious company. Since 2016, the company has expanded from two locations to eight, with three more opening in 2021, delivering multi-million-pound profits. The company has achieved huge success so far and I’m impressed at the management’s ambitions to continue this growth."
Commenting on Sir Rodney’s appointment, major shareholder and managing director Tracy Shepherd said: “We are delighted to have attracted Sir Rodney as our first chairman. His reputation and achievements in business is second to none, giving him an almost legendary status. Already in the few weeks leading to the official announcement, Sir Rodney has provided direction and focus to our strategic planning, which we anticipate will lead to our continuing growth and a stock market listing within one to two years.”
Sir Rodney has an impressive resume. Amongst many of his achievements, he was appointed by the Government to chair the company set up to oversee the organisation of the Tour de France and today is chair of the London Marathon Trust. He was knighted in 1996 by Her Majesty The Queen for services to sport and in 2012 was awarded freedom of his hometown, the City of Wakefield by Wakefield Council.
