Galaxy are delighted and proud to be a sponsor of the Steve Prescott Foundation’s latest fundraising event, Challenge Wembley 2019. Galaxy have once again teamed up with the inspirational Jimmy Gittins in his quest to complete the challenge - full details of Steve’s incredible story and this gruelling event, which involves a 900 mile bike ride through France, a 36 mile dragon boat ride along the Thames and a half marathon from Uxbridge to Wembley to deliver the match ball for the Rugby League Challenge Cup Final kick off can be found on the Foundation’s website.
This is the latest in a long line of wonderful but extremely challenging fund raising events since Steve established the foundation in August 2007 to raise funds for Christies Cancer Hospital in Manchester and the Rugby League Benevolent Fund.
Given only months to live when diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer in September 2006, Steve refused lie down and accept his fate – instead he became an inspiration to all by starting the foundation and not only arranging numerous arduous challenges but completing them too! Sadly, Steve lost his brave battle in November 2013 but the fantastic charity work in his name continues today through the help of former colleagues and team mates, such as Jimmy Gittins, himself an inspirational figure.
Jimmy suffered a broken neck playing rugby league in 2002 and was told he would never walk again but like Steve, he was determined to prove the prognosis wrong. Since then, not only has he learned to walk again with the aid of crutches, he has established a renowned sports fitness, therapy and rehabilitation centre and become a successful inspirational speaker in the fields of business, education and sports, as well as the small matter of completing several of the Foundation’s challenges!
Galaxy Group MD Tracy Shepherd commented, “ We have known Jimmy a long time and have been delighted to support several of the Foundation’s fund raising challenges. A few years ago prior to an event we sponsored, we had the fantastic privilege of meeting Steve when he came along to thank us in person for our support. We are proud to be involved in our own admittedly small way and all we can do is ask everyone to log on to the either the Steve Prescott Foundation or Jimmy Gittins facebook page to search how to contribute. Their stories are truly an inspiration to us all”
